Welcome!

Right this way soldier. Out of the dark and into the cold, heh. I can tell you're looking for someone, well, if you can't find them here, chances are they don't exist, heh. This here's the Rogues Gallery--a collection of every character to grace the chronicles of the Daylight Play-by-post game. Got a character? Put them here.

Word to the wise, heh, people talk about all kinds of things here. In-character, out-of-character, anything goes in this place, heh.

Four Changes (Soren)

(1) Power Swap:

Swapping Valiant Strike for
Bolstering Strike

You attack your foe without mercy or reprieve, and your accuracy
is rewarded with a divine gift of vigor.
At-Will✦Divine, Weapon
Standard Action Melee weapon
Target: One creature
Attack: Charisma vs. AC
Hit: 1[W] + Charisma modifier damage, and you gain temporary hit points equal to your Wisdom modifier.

(2) New Prayer (Utility Prayer):

Martyr's Blessing
You step into an attack made against an adjacent ally to save
your comrade.
Daily✦Divine
Immediate Interrupt Close burst 1
Trigger: An adjacent ally is hit by a melee or a ranged attack
Effect: You are hit by the attack instead.

(3) Ability Score Swap: Strength for Wisdom

Soren's original STR score was 14 (+2), and WIS 13 (+1). I am going to switch my Strength and Wisdom scores for one another (STR will become 13, WIS 14) because Soren's Lay on Hands ability can be perfomed a number of times per day equal to his Wisdom modifier. Likewise, Bolstering Strike will give me temporary hit points equal to my Wisdom modifier. In fact, a number of Paladin Prayers/Powers benefit from a high Wisdom score. If I change these ability scores, Soren will be able to use Lay on Hands twice per day, and there's really no reason not to change them, since Soren never uses STR-based attacks anyway. All of his attacks are CHA-based, which makes his attacks about as good as they can get at this point.

(4) New Feat: Cleric Multiclass

INITIATE OF THE FAITH
[Multiclass Cleric]
Prerequisite: Wis 13
Benefit: You gain training in the Religion skill.
Once per day, you can use the cleric’s healing word
power. In addition, you can use a holy symbol as an implement
when using a cleric power or a cleric paragon
path power.

  1. You add half your level to ability checks too (not to ability bonuses, though). No real need to mark that on your character sheet anywhere, but good to keep in the back of your mind.

Martyr's Blessing would work like Hunfrid's staff of defense. If you want to use it, you have to make sure to post the conditions under which you will use it. For example, Hunfrid's default policy is to use his Staff of Defense ability the first time it would help against an attack that deals 8 or more points of damage. If he wants to use it elsewhen, he posts something in the OOC section of his turn.

Likewise, in this case, you would post the circumstances you under which you will use the power in the OOC section of your turn. E.g. "OOC: Soren will use Martyr's Blessing if Hunfrid gets hit this round."

    Easy, peasy.

  2. Boy, Hunfrid must be a frequent target.

  3. Haha. Well, he keeps dying, so he was my example, and yes, I was thinking specifically of him when I saw this Prayer.

  4. hehe glad to know S isn't tired of saving H's butt. When choosing feats do you want us to stick to the players manuel or can we choose others from other sources. I'm using the Dungeons and Dragons Insider character builder beta program to help with the leveling and it lists a number of additional cool feats not in the original manuel

  5. So, do you just mean that if I have to roll an ability check for some reason, say Str, I automatically get to add half my level? This +1 does not influence the amount of damage I can deal and stuff like that, correct?

  6. Yeah, you only get the +1 for things like bending bars or catching coins off your elbow. You don't get it for damage.

Regarding the Character Builder, if you want to take a feat or power not listed in the Player's Handbook, just check with me first, so I can give it a once-over and make sure it's not unbalanced or otherwise problematic.

  7. Where do you get the character builder? Could you give me a web address?

  9. Since Inspiring Word and Healing word are mechanically identical, I think the decision should hinge more on whether the ability springs from your deepening faith, or your burgeoning leadership acumen. I think it's fair to swap the skill training in Religion with a different skill from the cleric list too, so don't let that be a deal-breaker.

  10. Good point. I guess I am tending toward the Warlord multi-class because there are not very many Cleric Feats that I could choose from down the road, and if I do the Warlord M.C. I could train athletics, which would be very useful. I could train Arcana from the Cleric's skill list, but that seems more Hunfrid's province anyway. Maybe before I make the final decision I will try to figure out what these paragon powers are.

  11. Well, we got a lot of levels between now and then, and you can always retrain down the road, so don't spend too much time on it, unless you're enjoying yourself.
